Day 4: Coastlines, Cappuccinos, and Climbing into Âncora

What a great day! Lots of work but lots of Portuguese beauty!

While leaving the city, we had a beautiful view of the church on the hill, Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus / Mount of Santa Luzia.

We also got to see some beautiful churches and cityscapes.

We had a nice stroll through the city on this quiet Saturday morning.
Morning by the Sea
The first half of today was hiking along the Portuguese coastline. The crashing waves were peaceful. It was sunny and the wind off the ocean was nice!

The trail was covered with snails, including this family of snails.

Then, we saw a fisherman on the rocks and captured this shot of him fishing with the wind turbines out at sea.

Heading into the Hills
We decided to move off of the El Camino “Litorol” route (along the coastline) and pick up the El Camino “Coastal” route that goes through town.

This route took us into Carreço, where we traveled through small villages trekking along narrow streets and rocky trails.

We had a chance to stop at a little café by a river where we enjoyed an amazing cappuccino!

We knew some afternoon rains were headed our way, so after getting a little dose of caffeine, we put on our rain gear and crossed the river to head into the trails.

We climbed through the mountainous areas with the wind keeping us cool.
After descending down the rainy mountainside, we came into our home for the evening, Vila Praia de Âncora!
