Day 11: From Caldas to the Edge of Santiago

Another amazing day on the El Camino! We left Caldas de Reis after an early breakfast, and hit the trail along with all the other early-bird hikers.

At one point, I got a little lost and asked a fellow pilgrim for directions.

Angela just wanted a picture with the pilgrim.

We got to see much of the city on the way of town.

And then we hit the trail. Lots of amazing wilderness on our hike today.

And amazing churches and Camino milestones along the way.

First Break

About 3 and half miles, we stopped for our first break of the day. It was nice to get a bite to eat and a couple cappuccinos.

Then, we got back to hiking!

With all the other hikers.

Second Break

A few miles and a couple hours later, it was time for another break—bathrooms, food and more coffee!

Heading into Town

As we started coming into town, it was obvious that this was a bit bigger city than the smaller villages we had been seeing along the countryside.

As we were walking into town, we came into a huge market. They were selling everything—clothes, shoes, pants, electronics, fruits, vegetables and freshly cooked food.

Final Day Tomorrow

Tomorrow is Day 12, our last stage of the hike. According to the maps, we are 23.9 kilometers (or 14.9 miles) from Santiago.

It’s going to be a challenging hike tomorrow. Lots of climbing, elevation and some more wilderness. Along with a 90% chance of rain!

Our goal is get started early, take our time and finish strong!

Until tomorrow!
