Day 6: Half Way to Santiago!

A couple of big El Camino milestones today: we’re officially half way through and our longest hike of all 12 days! 19.3 miles in about 7 hours.
Day 6 of 12 is finished. ✅
Early Start
We kicked off the hike at 7 am before the sun came up. It was nice! So peaceful and quiet. We left well before the surge of pilgrims. We had the El Camino to ourselves for a few hours.

As we looked back at A Guarda to say goodbye, the city on the sea was stunning!

We bumped into another statue of Santiago!

Coastline and the “Yellow Brick Road”
For most of the way today, we hugged the coastline. We bounced back and forth between trails right next to the coast and the “Yellow Brick Road” that ran next to a highway. (It wasn’t really brick but very bright yellow.)

Amazing Breakfast
Since we got an early start, we got to a cafe right as it opened. We had fresh cooked eggs and ham, and a couple of amazing cappuccinos! After eating continental breakfasts every morning, this was a very welcome treat.

Small Villages and Chapels
The path today took us through lots of small villages where we got to see some churches and chapels.

And some bigger churches.

Lots of Livestock
We also saw lots of horses and cows on today’s walk.

Heading Over the Hills
With about 4 miles left, we had to cross over some mountains to get to the city of Baiona.

The view from the top was amazing!

We crested the top of the hills, and descended into our home for the night, Baiona.

Time to put feet up and relax!
